CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring upgraded camera technology, faster processing power, and longer-lasting batteries. The devices showcase a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with adjustable aperture, along with the A20 Pro processor and a redesigned vapor chamber for sustained performance improvements. The Dynamic Island has been downsized but its functionalities expanded. Preorders commence on September 12, with initial retail availability beginning September 18.

The new Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to manage aperture across four settings, allowing users to modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. An added histogram helps monitor exposure while framing shots. Photographic Styles have been enhanced with new texture and grain controls, and video capabilities include applying Cinematic effects post-recording at up to 60 frames per second. Time-lapse recording now supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR video.
A notable camera feature, called Apple Reference Image, verifies photo authenticity. It captures signed sensor data with the Main camera shot and processes it via Private Cloud Compute into a reference image stored in the Photos app. This enables users to compare the reference with the main image to spot any alterations. Apple plans to add SynthID support later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized improvements in camera, performance, battery life, and intelligence at the launch event.
Variable aperture introduces new control options for iPhone photography
The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process, integrating a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance gains of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores. Its thermal system has been redesigned, positioning the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber that provides three times more surface area than previous models, enabling up to 40% higher sustained performance.
Battery improvements are particularly notable in eSIM-only models, which utilize space previously allocated for a physical SIM tray. Apple claims the Pro models can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, with the Pro Max reaching 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the battery to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only variants will launch in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, among other markets.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI and broader Apple Intelligence features
Both models of the iPhone 18 Pro operate on iOS 27 and support the newest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support following in October. Siri AI can leverage personal context from messages, emails, and photos when handling requests and can act on information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks utilize Private Cloud Compute, while other AI functions run locally on the device.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Buyers can choose storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Available colors include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, and sales will begin September 18 in over 65 countries and regions. An additional 20 markets will receive the phones starting September 25, expanding the reach of Apple’s latest Pro series.
